Dive 3 - Inside Accommodation

Date :Day 2 - 09:15
Place :Larnaca - Zenobia
Visibility :30m
Temp: Air :27 CWater :26 C

Today would be my first real chance to take a look inside the Zenobia with Chris as my dive guide.

The first dive would be a quick look inside the bridge followed by a swim through the accommodation level. Both dives ideal for beginners with a constant light-zone throughout. So I had no problems with this type of wreck penetration.

We dropped in on the bow and headed to the bridge, descending down as far as 30m giving us depth so that we wouldn't reverse profile on dive 2.

Into the bridge through a window it was very wierd since everything was on its side. You had the ceiling on your left, the floor on your right with windows along the side and bottom.

Unfortunately my poor little camera just couldn't do the experience justice since I had no additional lighting (and the fact I was struggling to keep it steady as usual).

A few minutes inside and we were heading back out a window ascending a few meters to enter the accommodation level.

Entering through a door this time, although it felt like a letter-box since it was on its side.

This was another strange experience. We swam from one end to the other through doorways, sone more obstructed than others. I think I only banged my 1st stage twice on this particular dive (must get that A-Clamp swapped to DIN).

As we rounded corners we had to swim either up or down a meter or two to follow the corridor.

All of the room walls had rotten through so there was an open void above us with a row of windows letting the light in like sky-lights.

Debris littered the way with cables and panels all over the place. I even saw a bathroom sink lying on the floor.

As we neared the exit of the ship, I could hear this wurring sound and it was getting lounder. I had no idea what it was.

Just as we exited the wreck, right above us was the tourist submarine they had warned me about (and today was Saturday). It was a lot bigger than I as expecting.

Not only that, but there were 4 rotors at the back which were un-protected so you definitely wanted to keep your distance.

As I tried to steady myself enough to catch it on camera, the pilot started to bring it closer to the ship! Probably saying to his passengers, "lets have some fun with these divers". So we all had to retreat into the side of the wreck to seek safety as it passed.

We then slowly ascended back along the side of the wreck making our way to the exit up the bow line again. Spotting the sub once more, this time from above just as we reached the line.
